Charles grew up criss-crossing America in make-up and big shoes. A third generation carny and circus performer, Charles was raised as a clown, acrobat and musician with shows like Johnny's United, Southland Amusements and Mississippi Valley Shows.
When not on the road, Charles spent his winters along the Gulf Coast of Mississippi, Alabama and Florida. In his teens he "ran away from the circus", bought a soundsystem and a hoopty Coupe deVille, and started playing proto-House music at clubs and dances across the South and the Midwest. (He still has the original 12" of White Horse.)
After several years as a radio and television presenter, he moved to Prague in the mid-nineties to take up the role of Culture Editor for The Prague Post. Two art degrees (PhD Central Saint Martins) later, he became BBC Radio 1's only Artist-in-Residence, working with the likes of Pete Tong and Paul Oakenfold, becoming an Ibiza regular. He recently appeared as himself in a Disney/ABC alternative reality game.
For several years, Charles was the United Nation's UK National Expert in New Media. He frequently consults broadcasters and agencies on youth and social media. He is an award-winning composer and visual artist, and an active cross-platform media and games producer.
Charles also designs games, and recently produced The White Island, an alternative reality game starring Pete Tong, Paul van Dyke and Young Punx. The White Island was commissioned as a European television series. He is currently designing Brain Surgery - The Game, funded by the Wellcome Trust.
Charles makes his home in Europe with his wife, Sarah Warsop (www.sarahwarsop.com).
